February 26, 1898: TR Began His Warmonger-In-Chief Career With a Telegram

The actual telegram (in code) from Roosevelt in D.C. to Dewey in Hong Kong.

121 years ago today (in fact nearly to the hour I write this), the then Assistant Secretary of the Navy (!), Theodore Roosevelt ordered the Pacific Squadron of Commodore George Dewey to ready for an attack of the Spanish fleet docked in Manilla.

That’s right: Before the Congress acted and without anyone’s knowledge, this warmonger inaugurated the formation of the American empire outside any purview, oversight, or control of the American people. Since this point, the United States has engaged in perpetual, coercive empire building in traditional and non-traditional ways alike so as to impose American values (whatever those are) on the rest of the world.

Today is also the 26th anniversary of the World Trade Center Bombing in New York City.

And Ron Paul was booed and laughed at when he spoke (and still courageously speaks) of blow-back!
